I’ve been on vacation with my family-and I survived!! Mr Kate Pearce drove about a 1000 miles, round trip with 2 teenage sons, a 7 year old daughter, my mother and me. And we all returned still speaking to each other!

We stopped off in San Diego for three days, took in Sea World and the Midway battleship, before heading out to Las Vegas, where my mother from the UK had never been and always wanted to go. When we arrived, it was about 105 degrees and I think she was a bit dubious, but after a day she got a bit more used to it. She won $38 on the slot machines from a 25c bet, saw the Hoover Dam in 114 degree heat and ate like a queen. She also fell in love with the fountains as Bellagio, so dragged us all out regularly to see them LOL.

I managed to find a whole Tadashi dress shop in the Forum shops of Caesar Palace, and ended up buying another dress…bad but so worth it!

But I’m glad to be home and I’m ready to get on with the next book entitled “Simply VI” All I know at the moment is that it is about Lisette Delornay-Ross, Helene and Philip’s daughter. It’s due in October so I’d better get a move on!

Kate Pearce’s The Tudor Vampire Chronicles, a series of Vampire romances dealing with the complicated supernatural lives of the queens of King Henry VIII, and the real reasons why some of them survived and some of them died, to Tracy Bernstein at NAL, in a nice deal, for three books, by Deidre Knight at The Knight Agency (world).

Yup-that’s me folks, branching out into mass market paranormal romance! These books will certainly be super-hot but ‘slightly’ different to my Aphrodisia’s which, as anyone who has read one knows, border on erotica. I’ve always been fascinated by The Tudor period and studied it as part of my history degree, so hopefully the history will be solid.

If all goes well, and I can write fast enough, you will start to see these books in late 2010-which probably sounds like forever, but in publishing terms is very fast. At the moment, I get to keep my Kate Pearce name-we’ll see if that stays the same, but if I change it, I’ll let you all know LOL

I was lucky enough to get my hands on this book early and for the first time in a long while I was so worried about the outcome that I had to take a peek at the end! Jennifer Haymore does a great job of presenting a seemingly impossible situation and making all the characters sympathetic. She also makes them work things out together, (something that is very dear to my own writerly heart.) Thank you for doing that, Jennifer and for not making it easy for any of them-yes I like tormented characters big time.

A while ago someone showed me this picture-I think it was on the ‘Romance Diva’s’ Forum-and, of course, I’ve totally forgotten who he is-if anyone can remind me, please let me know so I can give him proper credit.

When I saw this picture, I immediately thought of Anthony Sokorvsky, the hero of my upcoming book, Simply Wicked which comes out in September from Kensington Aphrodisia. (follow the link and read the excerpt and you’ll see why)

Usually I never see a physical representation of my characters, they remain in my head in all their utterly sinful gorgeousness and usually I prefer that. How many times has someone made a series or a movie of your favorite book and -in your opinion-totally miscast the hero? Several times in my opinion-(although Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon are notable exceptions )

I occasionally get email from readers who suggest real live actors for my characters and I always rush off and google image them to see whether I think they fit the image in my head. Usually, not quite, but that’s the great thing about reading a book rather than watching a movie. In a book, your unique experiences meld with the words to form the characters faces, and I like that. In a movie, it’s one person’s idea-and a comment on how big the movie budget was.

Any movie’s ruined for you by the actors chosen to portray the hero or heroine?
And can anyone tell me this guy’s name? LOL

You might wonder why I’m blogging about socks of all things, especially when the temperature here in Northern California has soared to about 90 degrees today. But I have reached my limit. It reminds me of the day when my long-suffering mother (who was not a morning person AT ALL) finally got fed up of my dad not eating the sandwiches she got up to make him every day. It was like a mini-revolution the day she finally said ‘make your own b****y sandwiches!”

I feel like this about socks. In my house there are 4 males with big feet. Apparently there are only about 5 brands of socks for men in the universe and as far as I can see, they all look the same. I do laundry almost everyday but usually just one white load a week so everyone’s socks get stuck in together. Sometimes I’ll pull out about 61 socks from the dryer and try and sort them out.

This leads to discussion like “No, mom, mine are the one’s with the thin black line beneath the red Hanes logo with the grey toes, not the one’s with the red line and the black Hanes logo and the all grey foot…”

I don’t care anymore. Especially when son #2 swears he will never wear again any sock that anyone else has accidentally put on their foot after I’ve redistributed them LOL So I rebelled and told them henceforth I would leave all the white socks in a big pile and they could sort out their own. You would’ve thought I’d suggested they wash them themselves so great was the consternation. But I intend to stand firm. They’ll work it out when they have no socks left to wear.

…and that brings me to a word about Mr. Kate Pearce and his sock fetish. I can guarantee that whenever I take him to a new store, he will reappear at some point with a new pack of black or white socks clutched in his hand. When I point out that he already has about 60 pairs of socks, he promises to throw some out. Ha! I suppose I should be grateful he is clean, right? but sometimes…
