I just made a reasonable guess that all cities/ports have brothels, most of them fairly gritty and down to earth and more than willing to service anything. and that’s really what I wanted for my characters-somewhere seriously unpleasant, basic and not haremy at all.

My goodness, it was certainly steamy! I had fallen for Peter in "Antonia's Bargain", and I was v. happy to see his tale. The only quibble I have is -- wouldn't a Turkish brothel in that time period be for males only? It niggled at me, and I would love to know if you have some research that indicates otherwise.
