What kind of soul are you?

Couldn't resist this quiz I 'borrowed' from my friend Mel's blog.
The result is so me!

***You Are a Dreaming Soul***

Your vivid emotions and imagination takes you away from this world
So much so that you tend to live in your head most of the time
You have great dreams and ambitions that could be the envy of all...
But for you, following through with your dreams is a bit difficult

You are charming, endearing, and people tend to love you.
Forgiving and tolerant, you see the world through rose colored glasses.
Underneath it all, you have a ton of passion that you hide from others.
Always hopeful, you tend to expect positive outcomes in your life.

Souls you are most compatible with: Newborn Soul, Prophet Soul, and Traveler Soul

Moving Along

It's three weeks into the new year and I'm feeling positive and upbeat about my writing and life generally. I've completed yet another manuscript, a short one at 30,000 words about a fantasy planet inhabitated by very manly descendants of the vikings who have a shortage of women on their planet...enter our heroine from Earth who sets everybody on their ears.

Now I just have to edit the thing. I snapped off half an inch of fingernail on the boot (sorry trunk) of my car one frosty morning taking the boys to school so I'm trying to type without my middle finger on my right hand which is incredibly annoying. My nails are so strong, something like this is really painful, honest!

Mr Kate, who is reading a biography of Scott the arctic explorer, made some withering comments about how one little fingernail couldn't really be worth whinging over compared to what Scott went through. I showed him said middle finger and told him to get back to his book.

I've had some great reviews for Eden's Pleasure. Only one of them was negative and since they got the story all wrong as well, I wasn't too bothered! It's really strange when your book gets reviewed. Some people absolutely got what I was trying to say, others had their own interesting interpretations...its so fascinating how the same words provoke such different reactions.

I'm still waiting to hear back on a number of projects and raring to go on some new ideas. I know I should wait to see what happens (or doesn't) before I commit myself one way or the other but I know I've got to write something new soon. I'm probably going to start Gideon's story next, he's nagging me to tell it.

I'm hoping to get some of my nice and successful author buddies to let me interview them here, so look forward to some interesting blogs coming soon!

In memory of...

Mr Kate's Auntie M died this week, so this blog is for her.

Auntie M was Ireland's answer to Liza Minelli. Blessed with natural blonde hair, blue eyes and perfect Irish skin, she hung out with the socialites in Dublin during the fifties and sixties. She was glamorous, she loved men and they were drawn to her wit, charm and larger than life personality.

Even as her beauty faded and she was widowed, she still surrounded herself with friends. She traveled widely and had a large devoted following of elderly gay men who found her as fascinating as ever. She loved to sing, enjoyed a good argument and sipped the 'occasional' glass of wine.

(At our wedding she and my father decided they were kindred spirits and drowned out the music with their own versions of Irish classics, whilst downing a few drinks at the bar.)

One night, after a glass of wine, I went up to kiss my then only child goodnight. He sniffed the air and asked me sleepily,"Are you wearing Auntie M's perfume?"

She lived her life. She enjoyed every day of it. She had great faith in God.

God speed, Auntie M-I'm sure my dad will meet you in the bar at heaven and share an everlasting drink and a song with you.
